Always a little worried in using daffodils in foam as been told they don’t last that well. Is this true and is there a tip to help them last longer in a design using foam?
Thank you for joining us for the demonstration Susan.
Daffodils, as with the majority of spring flowers, have a short shelf life. I would estimate approx 5-7 days depending on the ambient temperature and position of the design. By placing them into the design in bud form, you will achieve the optimum longevity.
Placing them in foam does however, reduce the effect their sap has on other flowers, especially if they’ve been conditioned for 24 hours in cold water before arranging with them. You can help to support the stems in foam by inserting a natural stem internally which prevents the stem from bending and snapping once the top heavy bloom has developed.
I’d recommend to use a specialist (not generic) flower food to avoid the production of sap!
I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
thank you for the information
